Olympiacos ends Gershon era
Pini Gershon - Olympiacos Olympiacos and Pini Gershon, one of the most accomplished coaches in European basketball, are headed their separate ways after a Saturday meeting. "We had to end the relationship," Gershon told Israeli media soon after. The Reds, who finished the Euroleague regular season with three straight losses, in fifth place in Group A, were unhappy with the progress of the team in Gershon’s second season at the helm and decided to make a change before the start of the Top 16.

"We had a meeting that lasted five minutes," Gershon told Israeli media on Saturday. "We all realized that we had to end the relationship. I'm glad that we left things in a friendly way with kisses and no hard feelings."

Gershon three European club titles and reached two more finals with Macabi Elite Tel Aviv, never missing a continental final in any full season he coached the club before stepping down in 2006 to take over at Olympiacos. Last season, he led the Reds to the Quarterfinal Playoffs in the Euroleague and the playoff finals in Greece. Gershon was named the Aleksander Gomelski Euroleague Coach of the Year at the end of the 2004-05 season.
