Roma bulks up with shot-blocker Crosariol
Lottomatica Roma added some size and shot-blocking ability when it registered Andrea Crosariol for the Top 16. Crosariol (23, 210) arrives from Virtus Bologna, where he was among the top shot-blockers in the Euroleague Basketball regular season. To make room for him, Roma released guard Ioannis Gkagkaloudis, whose trial contract expired. Crosariol grew up with Benetton Treviso, but then went to the United States to finish high school and then to play college basketball at Fairleigh Dickinson University. At the end of his junior season, during which he averaged 11.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3 blocks in 32 games, he rejoined Benetton at the end of the 2005-06 season and helpoed the team win the Italian championship. Last year Crosariol joined Virtus and helped the team to the Italian League finals. This season, as a reserve center, Crosariol averaged 4.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 13 Euroleague games for Virtus. He ranked fourth in the Euroleague regular season in blocks. Crosariol is Roma’s second addition in as many days after Ibrahim Jaaber signed on Monday.
