Top 16, Week 6 co-MVPs: Will Solomon, Fenerbahce and Jeremiah Massey, Aris
It comes as no surprise that two of the Top 16 index ranking leaders share the Week 6 MVP honor at the end of what has been a thrilling phase. Willie Solomon of Fenerbahce Ulker and Jeremiah Massey of Aris TT Bank tied for the best individual performance this week, each with a performance index rating of 34. Solomon helped Fenerbahce defeat previously unbeaten Tau Ceramica and qualify to the Quarterfinal Playoffs with 28 points on 5-for-6 three-pointers and 7-for-7 free throws. He added 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and also 4 fouls drawn to amass a 34 index. Meanwhile, Massey helped Aris to down Lietuvos Rytas with 28 points and 12 rebounds. He added 4 steals, 2 blocks and 6 fouls drawn for a 34 index. Tiago Splitter of Tau Ceramica also shined in the game against Fenerbahce with 21 points on 9-for-11 two-pointers, 7 rebounds and 5 fouls drawn, good for a 28 index. A pair of playoff-bound swingmen, Dusan Kecman of Partizan Igokea and Romain Sato of Montepaschi Siena, each with a 26 index, completed the top individual performances this week.
Individual highs: Theo Papaloukas, 10 assists
Massey and Solomon were also the best scorers in Week 6, each with 28 points. Solomon was also the Top 16 best scorer at 20.5 points per game, with Massey (20 ppg.) ranking second. Surprisingly enough, small forward Kecman led all rebounders by pulling down 13 in his Partizan's historical win against Panathinaikos. Terence Morris of Maccabi Elite (10.2 rpg.) was the Top 16 best rebounder and also finished first atop the index rating board (22.5 per game). Theo Papaloukas of CSKA dished 10 assists against AXA FC Barcelona and broke a record for the entire Top 16 in the process. His 42 assists, an average of 7 per game, were the most ever in the Top 16 round. Massey, Solomon and Bootsy Thornton of Montepaschi Siena each collected 4 steals this week. Solomon led the Top 16 in steals with 3 per game. Morris had 6 blocks against Zalgiris, one short of tying the single-game record in the Top 16. Darjus Lavrinovic still holds the single-game Top 16 record with 7 blocks in for Zalgiris against Panathinaikos on March 17, 2005. Omer Asik of Fenerbahce was the Top 16 best shot blocker at 3.17 per game. Four players had double-doubles based on points and rebounds this week: Massey - with 28 points and 12 rebounds -, Kecman, with 16 and 13 -, Kenan Bajramovic of L. Rytas, with 14 and 10 - and Carlos Jimenez of Unicaja, with 12 and 10.
