Nike IJT Belgrade Game Report: Khimki 65-102 FMP
Host team FMP opened the inaugural edition of the Euroleague Basketball Nike International Junior Classiciation Tournament Belgrade with a comfortable win over BC Khimki Moscow Region. Khimki must now beat KK Bosna handsomely if they wish to reatin any chance of fighting for the semifinals, whilst FMP have confirmed their favourites tag with the win. Bojan Subotic led the winners with 26 points and 6 rebounds, whilst Teymuraz Babunashvili was the best man for Khimki, scoring 23 points in a losing effort. It was the visiting Russians who got off to the brighter start, running their way to a 28-17 lead at the end of the first quarter behind some strong play from Klyuchnikov. Both teams pressing aggressively full court as the second quarter kicked off, and a putback and one from Musli helped his team take their first lead of the morning at 30-31. At the half it was 41-47 to FMP. After the break it was FMP who started to put on a show for their fans when a Subotic fastbreak dunk forced Khimki Coach Zvinklis to call a timeout. An outstanding athletic block by Gudzic was then followed by a hustle play which gave Vukasovic a cut lip. 58-70 at the end of the third. After quickly building a 20 point lead, the rest of the game was a mere formality as the Serbs ran out 65-102 winners, looking to book their semifinal place later today against Bosna.
