Nike IJT Belgrade Game Report: Khimki 64-59 Bosna
Vladimir Pichokurov - Khimki juniors BC Khimki Moscow finished its first round of games in the Nike Junior Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia with a 64-59 win over KK Bosna Sarajevo. Earlier Khimki lost to hosting side FMP Zeleznik 65-102 but found the energy to get a win, that will keep them in the race at least until the game between FMP and Bosna later on today. The Russians saw a very active first half on the boards by forward Andrey Kirdiachin who already collected 11 boards in the that time to give his team a 40-29 after two quarter. Bosna's forward Aldin Majstorovic slashed to the rim time after time to keep his side in the game, but a second quarter run put Khimki on top. Bosna chased after Khimki for the entire second half but every time it got closer, the Russian side found the path to keep its safety distance. Guard Vladimir Pichokurov showed great energy and good mid-range game to make the difference. Point guard Nikola Maric of Bosna gave one last effort and with back-to-back lay ups made it a 59-56 game with two minutes on the clock. A minute later he missed an open three point shot that could have tied the score only to watch guard Fedor Pazinenko on the other end nail the winning three pointer with 30 seconds on the game clock, and secure the win. Pichokurov was the top scorer of Khimki with 16 points, Pazinenko had 13 and Kirdiachin finished with 12 points and 17 boards. Majstorovic led Bosna with 19 points and eight boards, Maric finished with 14 points and big man Aldin Klinac had an 11 points - 11 rebounds double-double.
