Playoffs, Games 1-2, co-MVPs: Basile, Smodis
Matjaz Smodis - CSKA Moscow Two players who led their teams to series-tying Game 2 wins can also celebrate some individual honors. Gianluca Basile of AXA FC Barcelona and Matjaz Smodis of CSKA Moscow are the co-MVPs of the first games of Quarterfinal Playoffs after each amassed an average index rating of 22. Basile averaged 25.5 points, shooting 52.4% from downtown and 80% from the fouil line and adding 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.5 steals and even his first blocked shot of the season as Barcelona split a pair of games with Maccabi Elite. Smodis averaged 19 points on 58.2% two-point and 85.7% three-point shooting plus 4.5 rebounds and 4 fouls drawn as CSKA evened its series with Olympiacos at 1-1. Qyntel Woods of Olympiacos is third with an average index of 21.5 after recording 19.5 points per game on 53.3% two- and 75% three-point shooting, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals. Ksistof Lavrinovic of Montepaschi Siena, the only team that swept its Quarterfinal Playoffs series, posted an average index of 20.5 – fourth best after two games. Lavrinovic, who came off the bench in Game 1, finished with 17 points on 62.5% two-point and 87.5% three-point shooting plus 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 4.5 fouls drawn per game. Ramunas Siskauskas of CSKA completed the top individual performances for the week with an average index of 20, coming from 16 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists per game.

Individual highs: Basile matches quarterfinal scoring record

Basile was not only the top average scorer in Games 1 and 2 with a total of 51 points, but his output in Game 2 was a feat for the record books. Basile scored 34 in Barcelona's home win, marking the most in the shooting guard’s 157 Euroleague games and tying Luis Scola, then of Tau Ceramica, for the best quarterfinal scoring performance. Scola scored 34 against Benetton Treviso three seasons ago. Basile is now averaging 10 points per game for the season. Woods had the second-most points in the two games with 19.5 points per game. Terence Morris of Maccabi Elite is the playoffs top rebounder with 10.5 per game. Morris is now ahead of Jeremiah Massey of Aris TT Bank for the best rebounding average by a fraction, though both are officially listed at 8.45 rebounds per game. Two opponents from the same series, Theodoros Papaloukas of CSKA and Lynn Greer of Olympiacos top the playoffs assists charts with 5.5 per game. Papaloukas remains second in the season-long standings with 4.9, trailing Zalgiris's DeJuan Collins with 5.4 assists per game. Greer is ninth at 3.6. Montepaschi's Shaun Stonerook, who had 8 steals in Game 1, averaged 5 per game to top the quarterfinal charts. He now has 2.6 steals per game for the season, which is second altogether trailing only teammate Terrel McIntyre by a fraction. Morris, with 2.5 blocks per game in the playoffs, is now the full season leader in that category as well with 1.9 per game.
