Head coach Ettore Messina to stay at CSKA
Ettore Messina will remain on the CSKA Moscow bench for at least another season after club and coach announced their agreement Sunday on a new contract. CSKA's announcement of the agreement came hours before before playing the 2008 Euroleague Final against Maccabi Tel Aviv. CSKA re-signed Messina for next season with an option for the 2009-10 season as well, the club said. Messina is completing his third season with the club, having reached the Euroleague Final in all three. He and CSKA won the Euroleague title in their first season together, 2006. They were runners-up by two points in last season's title game. At the time of Sunday's announcement, CSKA was prepared to play another final that, if successful, will make the club the second most successful in the highest competition in European competition. Messina had previously coached Virtus Bologna to two Euroleague titles, in 1998 and 2001, and took Benetton Treviso to the Final Four in 2003. Messina also coached the Italian national team.
