Azovmash Mariupol has confirmed that head coach Memi Becirovic extended his contract for one more year, with an option to stay until the end of the 2009-10 season. Becirovic arrived in Mariupol in February and he immediately delivered by leading Azovmash to win the Ukrainian Cup. Despite its loss on points differential against Zadar in the ULEB Cup Last 32 round, Becirovic managed to lead Azovmash to its third consecutive Ukrainian League title, downing archrivals BC Kyiv in the best-of-five title series. Becirovic had left Union Olimpija earlier this season. He had previously lifted the Slovenian League and Slovenian Cup trophies with Helios Domzale in 2007. Becirovic, whose son Sani is a Euroleague superstar, has also coached Conad Rimini in Italy, as well as Elektra, Rogla Zrece, Posta Branik, Satex in his native Slovenia, as well as being assistant coach of the Slovenian national team.
