The player who has appeared in the most Euroleague games since the turn of the century, Denis Marconato, was released by F.C. Barcelona on Friday as the contract between them ended. Marconato, 32, has played in 165 games since 2000, more than any other Euroleague player by three over CSKA Moscow guard J.R. Holden. Just as impressively, all of Marconato's teams have made it to the Final Four or the penultimate step before it in each of those eight seasons. Marconato started half of Barcelona's games in each of the previous two seasons, averaging 3.6 points and 3 rebounds in the last one. A pro since 1992, when he joined Benetton in his native Treviso, Italy, Marconato has played every season but one in his hometown or in Barcelona, where he spent the last three seasons, collecting the 2007 Spanish King's Cup to add to his crowded personal trophy case.
