Unicaja tabs point guard Omar Cook
Omar Cook Unicaja has signed point guard Omar Cook to a two-year contract. Cook (186, 26) arrives from Red Star Belgrade, where he had a breakout ULEB Cup campaign last season. In 14 games with Red Star, Cook led the competition with 6.1 assists per game, was second with 2.4 steals per game and was second on his club with 15.2 points per game. He posted 16.5 points, 6.5 assists and 3 steals in 29 Adriatic League games. The New York City native has been well-traveled in recent years, suiting up for Dexia Mons in Belgium, CSKA Samara in Russia and Strasbourg in France before joining Red Star. He played a total of 22 games in the NBA for Portland and Toronto between 2003 and 2005. Cook was a high school star and named a McDonald's All-American before attending St. John's University, where as a freshman he amassed the second-most assists in college basketball in the 2000-01 season with 8.7 per game.
