Euroleague, Eurocup stars fill Olympic Qualifying Tournament
|
The 2008 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men has started in Athens, Greece with 12 teams from all five continents fighting for the three remaining spots in the 2008 Olympic Games, which start in Beijing, China on August 8. Those 12 teams have been divided into four groups of three teams each. The best two teams in each group will reach the single-game quarterfinals on Friday, July 18. The semifinals will be played on Saturday, followed by the title game on July 20. The finalists and the winner of the third-place game will go to Beijing to join Angola, Argentina, Australia, China, Iran, Lithuania, Russia, Spain and the United States in the medal chase. All the qualifying tournament games will take place at OAKA Sports Arena, home court of Euroleague powerhouse Panathinaikos. As in each worldwide competition, dozens of Euroleague and Eurocup players are participating.
