One of the Euroleague's all-time top scorers will keep adding to his tally as FC Barcelona announced that Gianluca Basile extended his contract for two more years. Barcelona retains an option to release Basile at the end of the 2008-09 season. Basile (192, 33) is seventh on the all-time Euroleague Basketball scoring charts with 1,729 points, ranks second in steals (223), ninth in assists (369) and third in games played (158). He is also the all-time leader in three-pointers made (319) and is second in shots attempted (901). Basile previously played for Fortitudo Bologna and Reggio Emilia in his native Italy. He helped Barcelona to win the Spanish King's Cup title in 2007 and lifted Italian League trophies with Fortitudo in 2000 and 2005. Basile is also a regular member of the Italian national team, with whom he won the silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. He scored 31 points on 7-for-11 three-point shooting in the semifinal against Lithuania.
