Avellino tabs Tamar Slay
Avellino continues its preparations for its Euroleague Basketball debut by signing forward Tamar Slay for the upcoming season. Slay (204, 28) arrives from fellow Italian League club Pierrel Capo d’Orlando, where he had his best season since arriving in Europe in 2005. Slay averaged 16.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game with d’Orlando. His career to date has been marred by injuries, though when healthy Slay has always been an effective player on both sides of the ball. He played college basketball at Marshall University and then spent two seasons in the NBA with New Jersey and another in Charlotte. Slay came to Israel in 2005 and played a season-and-a-half with Hapoel Jerusalem, reaching the 2006 ULEB Cup semifinals. Last season he came to Italy and shined with d’Orlando, which proved to be a stepping stone to a spot in the Euroleague with Avellino.
