Greens add Verginis to backcourt

Dimitris Verginis - PAOK Greek champions Panathinaikos have made a backcourt addition for the present and future with the signing of point guard Dimitris Verginis to a four-year contract, the club announced Friday. Verginis (191, 21) arrives from PAOK Thessaloniki, where he made history as the youngest captain in that club's long history. He averaged 10.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists throughout the 2007-08 Greek League season. While still a teenager, Verginis debuted for PAOK in 2005-06 by averaging 9.3 points and 2.7 assists in three FIBA Europe Cup games. In the next season's ULEB Cup, he appeared in seven games and averaging 2.5 points. Verginis grew up with the Basketball Academy Asteria in Thessaloniki and has been member of the Greek cadets, junior and young men's national teams.
