Avellino inks point guard Mike Nardi
Euroleague newcomer Air Avellino further strengthened the point guard spot on Tuesday with the signing of Mike Nardi. The move comes on the heels of the release of Dan Dickau and the subsequent signings of veteran playmaker Travis Best and combo-guard Drake Diener. Nardi (186, 23) last played for Italian second division side Agricola Gloria Montecatini, where he averaged 11.8 points, 3.3 assists and 1.9 steals in 29 games last season. He ranked fifth in the league in assists. Nardi played for Montecatini on loan from Eldo Napoli, which signed him to a multi-year deal in the summer of 2007. However he became a free agent when Napoli recently ran into legal difficulties and lost its Italian League license. Nardi made a name for himself with a standout college basketball career at Villanova University, where as a senior he was part of a well-publicized four-guard lineup that helped the Wildcats win a share of the Big East Conference crown. He finished that season with averages of 11.8 points and 3.8 assists per game.
