CSKA's Holden to miss 3 weeks
The longest consecutive-game streak in the Euroleague will end after CSKA Moscow announced Friday that point guard J.R. Holden has a broken finger. Holden, who was injured in CSKA's road win on Wednesday at Panionos On Telecoms, broke his right little finger and has the entire hand in a cast for the next three weeks. When the cast comes off, doctors will determine how much more time Holden will miss before rejoining the CSKA backcourt. Before this injury, Holden had played an incredible 164 consecutive Euroleague games dating to October 10, 2001, when he played for AEK of Greece. Holden did not miss a single game and started all but three in the seven full seasons since, reaching a record six consecutive Final Fours and winning two Euroleague titles with CSKA. The next game he plays, Holden will tie for the most Euroleague appearances all decade with Denis Marconato, who no longer plays in the competition, therefore in his second game back, Holden will have the record. He already owns the consecutive-game streak with 164, which is unlikely to be broken anytime soon, as his nearest pursuer, Davor Kus of Cibona Zagreb, only has played 125 in a row. The second-longest Euroleague streak of the decade, 158 games by Derrick Sharp, was stopped when he didn't play in Maccabi Tel Aviv's opening game two weeks ago.
