Week 3 MVP: Igor Rakocevic, Tau Ceramica
One of world basketball's best shooters has outdone himself at the start of the Euroleague season. Tau Ceramica guard Igor Rakocevic, a former Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy winner, recorded the competition's best individual performance in Week 3 to lead his team to a blowout 106-65 home win against Alba Berlin. Tau is now the only undefeated team in Group C and one of four Euroleague teams that has yet to lose. Rakocevic needed just 25 minutes to score 27 points against Alba on 6-for-6 three-point, 1-for-3 two-point and 7-for-7 free-throw shooting. Rakocevic also added a game-high 5 assists and 4 fouls drawn to reach a performance index rating of 34. Sani Becirovic of Lottomatica Roma followed with a 33 index rating based on his 23 points in a road win over Union Olimpija. Becirovic made 10 of 12 free throws while collecting 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 fouls drawn against his former team. Jobey Thomas of AJ Milano and Chris Warren of Avellino each had a 29 index in Week 3. Thomas had 27 points on 4-for-5 two-pointers, 5-for-6 three-pointers and 4-for-4 free throws despite his team's road loss against Partizan. Meanwhile, Warren had 24 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 fouls drawn to make Unicaja beat Air Avellino. Kerem Gonlum of Efes Pilsen and D'or Fischer of Maccabi Electra, each with a 26 index rating, completed the top individual performances in this round.
Individual highs: Milenko Tepic, Partizan Belgrade, 8 assists
Rakocevic and Thomas each had 27 points in this round to lead the scorers table. Rakocevic is also the current Euroleague top scorer at 21.3 points per game. Gonlum led all rebounders by pulling down 12 in his team's home loss against Panionios On Telecoms. Gonlum ties for second place in the rebounders table (9.33 rpg.) right behind Pops Mensah-Bonsu of DKV Joventut (11.5 rpg.), who did not play this week due to a shoulder injury. Tepic dished 8 assists to help Partizan rally from a 23-point deficit to beat AJ Milano 81-76. Demond Mallet leads the overall assists standings at 5.7 per game. Romain Sato collected 6 steals, more than anyone in this round. Pablo Prigioni of Tau Ceramica leads the overall table at 3 per game. Terence Morris of CSKA Moscow and Fran Vazquez of Regal FC Barcelona each had 4 blocks in this round. Morris is also the Euroleague's top shot blocker at 4 per game. Only five players - Gonlum, Mike Batiste of Panathinaikos, Jonas Maciulis of Zalgiris, Ersan Ilyasova of Regal FCB and Stephane Lasme of Partizan - registered respective double-doubles in this round.
