Climamio to try out Abdul-Wahad
With hopes of changing its luck after the club's worst season start in 13 years, Climamio Bologna has invited former NBA star Tariq Abdul-Wahad to a one-week tryout. Abdul-Wahad (198, 32) has not played any game since September 2003, when the French national team faced Italy in the Eurobasket 2003 bronze-medal game. The 11th overall pick of the Sacramento Kings in the 1997 NBA Draft was released one year ago by the Dallas Mavericks – his last NBA team – after playing only 14 games in three seasons. With the Orlando Magic, who acquired him from the Kings in 2000, Wahad had averaged 12.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in 46 NBA games in the 2000-2001 campaign. That performance convinced the Denver Nuggets to sign him to a seven-year contract. In 2002, the Nuggets sent him to the Mavericks. Abdul-Wahad had never played for European clubs as he moved early from Paris, France to the United States, first to Michigan University then to San Jose State University, where he averaged 23.8 points and 7.2 rebounds in his senior year. Abdul-Wahad arrived in Bologna on Monday.
