Week 8 MVP: Sani Becirovic, Lottomatica Roma
Sani Becirovic - Lottomatica RomaLottomatica Roma not only advanced to the Top 16 with a tense overtime victory on Thursday, but its star guard also became the Week 8 MVP. No sooner did Sani Becirovic receive his trophy as November MVP in an on-court ceremony before the game than he went out and started earning the weekly honor, too. From the moment he stepped off the bench in the first quarter all the way through overtime, Becirovic was Roma's leader in a crucial 74-69 home win against his former team, Union Olimpija. Becirovic finished with 23 points on 13-for-14 free-throw shooting while adding 7 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal, a block and 11 fouls drawn for the week-high performance index rating of 38. Pat Burke of Asseco Prokom also posted monster numbers in Week 8. Burke had 18 points and 20 rebounds in his team's road loss against Zalgiris. Burke finished the game with a 33 index rating and became just the eighth player to pull down at least 20 boards in a Euroleague game. Felipe Reyes of Real Madrid and Paulius Jankunas each had index ratings of 28. Reyes put up 19 points on 9-for-10 free throws, 6 rebounds and 11 fouls drawn in Madrid's epic road win against CSKA. Meanwhile, Jankunas shined with 23 points and 5 rebounds to lead Zalgiris to its first Euroleague victory this season. Earl Calloway of Cibona, with a 26 index rating, completed the top individual performances of the week.

Individual highs: Loren Woods, Zalgiris, 7 blocks

With 24 points against Alba Berlin, Igor Rakocevic led Tau Ceramica to a victory that meant passage to the Top 16. Rakocevic also heads the overall standings at 18.8 points per game. Burke led all rebounders with his 20 boards against Zalgiris. Loren Woods of Zalgiris is the new leader atop the rebounds table with 9 per game. Ioannis Kalampokis of Panionios On Telecoms dished 9 assists in his team's home loss against Efes Pilsen. His 5 steals were also the most this week. Omar Cook of Unicaja leads in assists overall this season, at 5.4 per night. Pablo Prigioni of Tau Ceramica heads the overall steals list at 2.5 per game. Woods had 7 blocks, tying for third-most ever in a Euroleague game, along with Darjus Lavrinovic and Grygorii Khizhniak. Curiously enough, both Lavrinovic and Khizhniak played for Zalgiris when they set their marks, too. Woods is now the blocks leader at 2.38 per game. Only four players - Burke, Lior Eliyahu of Maccabi Electra, Alain Koffi of Le Mans and Lubos Barton of Regal FC Barcelona - registered double-doubles in this round.
