Alba's Femerling out long-term
As it attempts to make the Top 16 from Group C, Alba Berlin will have to play so without center Patrick Femerling, who is going to be out of action for at least two more months after doctors determined that the former Euroleague champion will need surgery on his right knee. Femerling (33, 213) has labored under knee pain since mid-December and played in only three Euroleague games this season. Now, Berlin specialists say he would be best served with an operation on an inflamed tendon and bone spurs in his knee. Femerling won the 2003 Euroleague with FC Barcelona and has taken national league titles in three countries: Spain, Greece and his native Germany. Alba faces what is likely to be a do-or-die road game at DKV Joventut in Badalona, Spain on Wednesday.
