Not since he was a Euroleague rookie at 17 years old had Fenerbahce Ulker center Oguz Savas gone 10 games without starting, but in Thursday's last regular season game of the 2008-09 season, he made the utmost of his substitute role by earning his team a victory and himself the Week 10 MVP honor. Savas registered several career highs in Fenerbahce's 90-86 overtime home win against Lottomatica Roma, among them a performance index rating of 41, which was 10 points better than any other Euroleague player in Week 10. Savas, now 21, posted career bests of 27 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 10 fouls drawn in 34 minutes. He made 6 of 8 two-point shots, 1 of 2 three-pointers and 12 of 15 free throws. Savas was followed in the weekly ranking by another young star-in-the-making, Armani Jeans Milano guard Luca Vitali, whose own career-best performance paced his team to a 77-87 road win at Panionos On Telecoms and a place in the Top 16. Vitali was in a zone as he, too, amassed career highs of 32 points, including 7-for-9 three-point and 7-for-7 free throw accuracy, while dishing three assists. Tied for third place with index ratings of 30 each were Tiago Splitter, whose 18 points and 8 rebounds helped Tau Ceramica win again, and Lonny Baxter of Panionios, who had 19 and 9 in a losing effort against Milano. Fifth on the list was rookie Vladimir Golubovic of Union Olimpija, who had a personal-best 21 points and 8 rebounds in a road victory at Alba Berlin.
Individual highs: Alain Koffi, Le Mans, 13 rebounds
Vitali's 32 points topped all scorers for Week 10, while the overall top scorer of the regular season was Igor Rakocevic of Tau Ceramica (20 ppg.), who also saw his record streak of consecutive free throws stopped at 58. The week's top rebounder was Alain Koffi, whose 13 boards helped Le Mans end its season with a two-win streak. Loren Woods of Zalgiris finished as the top overall rebounder (9 rpg.). The top assist-giver in Week 10 was Terrell McIntyre of Montepaschi Siena, who dished 11, while Theo Papaloukas of Olympiacos finished atop the regular season chart (5 apg.) In steals, the best of the week were Lottomatica Roma guard Ibby Jaaber and Olympiacos guard Yotam Halperin, with 6 each, while the best stealers of the regular season were a trio: McIntyre, Pablo Prigioni of Tau Ceramica and Charles Smith of Efes Pilsen, with a shared average of 2.2 per game. The block masters of the week were Boniface Ndong of Unicaja and Marcus Fizer of Maccabi Electra, in the same game while Woods of Zalgiris easily topped the overall charts (2.38 bpg.) Double-doubles for Week 10 were registered by Koffi, Jeremiah Massey of Real Madrid, Andre Hutson of Roma in points and rebounding, and by McIntyre in points and assists.
