Real Madrid signs Winston, releases Hosley
February 24, 2009
Real Madrid has reached an agreement with small forward Kennedy Winston, who signed with the Spanish powerhouse in the last hours before the final roster deadline of the season. Winston (198, 24) replaces Quinton Hosley, whose contract was terminated also on Tuesday. The undefeated Last 16 group leader penned Winston for the remainder of the season. Winston averaged 10.3 points on 60.5% two-point shooting and 5 rebounds in eight Eurocup games with Turk Telekom this season. He has also played for Panathinaikos and Panionios in Greece, as well as for Gran Canaria in Spain. Winston helped Panathinaikos win the Greek League and the Greek Cup titles with Panathinaikos last season, also averaging 5 points and 2.3 rebounds in 19 Euroleague games with the Greens. Hosley, who had also moved from Turkey to Madrid last summer, averaged 8.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in 13 Euroleague games this season.
Madrid also registered 18-year-old big man Nikola Mirotic from its junior team. Mirotic recently made headlines as the MVP of the NIKE International Junior Classification Tournament in L'Hospitalet, Spain, where he averaged 28.3 points and 13.7 rebounds in four games, including 35 points without a miss and 23 rebounds in the last of them.
