Panathinaikos, Olympiacos join bash in Berlin!
SLIDESHOW Playoffs Game 4
The famed Athens derby will have a new chapter written in Berlin after Panathinaikos and Olympiacos both clinched spots at the 2009 Final Four, which will take place at the o2 Arena in the German capital on May 1-3. They join defending champion CSKA Moscow, which booked its ticket on Tuesday. The last remaining berth will be decided next Thursday when Regal FC Barcelona hosts Tau Ceramica in an all-Spanish League clash in Game 5 of the best-of-five series. Olympiacos triumphed over Real Madrid 75-78 in the Spanish capital to win that series 3-1. Ioannis Bourousis stepped up with Nikola Vujcic sidelined with an injury and posted 25 points and 3 blocked shots to lead the Reds, while Zoran Erceg scored all of his 7 points in the last four minutes, including the go-ahead three-pointer in the final minute. Panathinaikos bested Montepaschi Siena 84-91 to wrap up its series. Drew Nicholas matched his season high with 19 points – including 5-for-7 shooting from downtown – to lead six Greens’ scorers in double figures. Barcelona blasted Tau Ceramica 63-84 to force a Game 5. Jaka Lakovic scored 15 points and 5 assists and Juan Carlos Navarro returned from injury to drain 3 threes for the winners. A playoff record 30-point third quarter, which featured runs of 10 and 11 unanswered points, was the difference as the Barca defense held Tau to a season-low in scoring. Game 5 will take place on Thursday at 20:45 CET at the Palau Blaugrana in Barcelona with everything at stake for these two rivals.
