CSKA MOSCOW: Big man Sokolov signed at center
Dmitry Sokolov - UnicsTwo days after changing head coaches, Euroleague powerhouse CSKA Moscow continued its reformation by agreeing with center Dmitry Sokolov, one of the top per-minute contributors in the Eurocup last season, to a three-year contract. Sokolov (214, 24) arrives from Unics Kazan, where he averaged 10 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1 block in just 18 minutes on average over 12 Eurocup games last season. On a per-minute basis, he ranked sixth in both scoring and blocks, as well as 10th in performance index rating, among all Eurocup players. Sokolov also helped Unics win its second trophy ever, the Russian Cup, after upsetting CSKA in the semifinals. Before joining Unics in late 2006, Sokolov had played for Stavropol, Pulkovo St.Petersburg, Lokomotiv Mineralnye Vody and Lokomotiv Rostov. He helped Unics make it to the ULEB Cup semifinals in 2007 and has been a member of the Russian under-16, under-18, under-20 and under-21 national teams. With Russia, Solokov won a gold medal at the 2005 European under-20 championships held in Moscow. Now, he is now ready to make his Euroleague debut in the upcoming 2009-10 season.
