Ricardo Greer - EB Pau-Orthez The final night of Euroleague Basketball in 2006 proved as exciting as most, with four games that went down to the wire and the first two teams qualifying for the Top 16. Panathinaikos topped Cibona 75-78 on the road in Zagreb to remain undefeated atop Group B after nine games. The win made the Greens the first team to clinch a spot in the Top 16. Chris Warren brought Cibona within 67-70 with two minutes to go, but Dimitrios Diamantidis and Demos Dikoudis answered to seal the win for Panathinaikos. Mike Batiste paced the winners with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Maccabi beat Partizan 85-83 after Vonteego Cummings missed a chance to win the game with a three-pointer at the buzzer. Team captain Derrick Sharp scored a season-high 22 points as Maccabi won its 13th straight home game. Benetton edged Winterthur FCB 68-67 as Marco Mordente's single free throw with 1.67 seconds on the clock broke a tie. Mordente came off the bench for 17 points, while Nikos Zisis led Benetton with 21. Gianluca Basile scored a season-high 19 for Barca, but league-leading scorer Juan Carlos Navarro had a season-low 8. Tyrone Ellis made 5-of-6 free throws in the final minute as Eldo Napoli outlasted Zalgiris Kaunas 92-87 . Ellis finished with 18 points and 8 assists to lead six Napoli scorers in double figures. Zalgiris, which lost its seventh straight game, got 26 points and 9 rebounds from Tanoka Beard. Finally, Pau-Orthez pounded Fenerbahce Ulker 89-67, helping Group C leader CSKA Moscow, which beat Aris 62-65 on Wednesday, to advance to the Top 16.
