CSKA Moscow inks forward Ivan Radenovic
Shortly after announcing that star forward and captain Matjaz Smodis would miss the start of the season with back trouble, CSKA Moscow added to its froncourt by signing versatile forward Ivan Radenovic for the season. Radenovic (208, 25) arrives from Greek side Panellinios, where he averaged 14.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in 12 Eurocup games last season. He was a revelation in the first half of the campaign, leading the entire competition in index ranking during the regular season (24.3 per game) and proceeded to finish the season as the per-minute leader in that category despite coming off the bench for all but one game. Radenovic displayed his potential during the previous season, helping Spanish side Akasvayu Girona reach the 2007-08 ULEB Cup Final. Radenovic started that season seeing limited playing time, but exploded with 20 points in the semifinal against Dynamo Moscow. He also had 20 points in the title game against DKV Joventut. Radenovic has also played for Partizan in his native Serbia and for the University of Arizona in the United States. And has been a member of the Serbian national team.
"Ivan is young, talented and athletic, a quick big player who is able to play with his back to the basket and can score from the perimeter," CSKA head coach Evgeny Pashutin said. "In the current situation with Smodis's injury, we expect that Ivan will help us strengthen a problematic position."
