Flu fells Olympiacos duo
Sofoklis Schortsanitis - OlympiacosOlympiacos will start the Euroleague season without its pillar in the paint, Sofoklis Schortsanitis, after he and rising star teenager Kostas Papanikolaou were diagonosed with the (a)H1NI virus, the club announced on Sunday. Both players returned from the Euroleague American Tour '09 with symptoms of the virus and underwent medical examinations this week that confirmed they have contracted the notorious flu. Due to the high possibility of contagion associated with the virus, all Olympiacos players and other club members who travelled on the tour in the United States will be tested, too, the team said. Olympiacos doctors reported that both players are not in danger and are handling the symptoms well, nonetheless will be out of action until it passes. That means that Schortsanitis and Papanikolaou will miss at least the Reds' opening game in Group B on Wednesday against Euroleague newcomer Entente Orleanaise of France. The game is a home game for Olympiacos at Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus, Greece. Schortsanitis was to have returned for his first Euroleague game since last February, while will have to wait to make his official Euroleague debut.
