Week 10 MVP: Nikola Vujcic, Maccabi Elite
The new year started with great individual performances all around the continent, but no one shined brighter that Nikola Vujcic of Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv, who won Week 10 MVP despite his team's 88-81 overtime road loss at Lottomatica Roma. The two-time All-Euroleague center was at his best, scoring a career-high 33 points on 9-of-12 two-pointers and 3-of-4 three-pointers. Vujcic added 8 rebounds, 7 assists, a steal, a block and 8 fouls drawn for an index rating of 40, enough to earn his second Weekly MVP award of the season. Jeremiah Massey of Aris TT Bank was second in this week's list with a 38 index. Massey scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in his team's 80-72 home win over Eldo Napoli. Kaspars Kambala of Fenerbahce Ulker was third (35 index) due to his 23 points and 8 rebounds to lead Fenerbahce to a 70-58 home win over Benetton Treviso. Antonis Fotsis of Dynamo Moscow (28) and Michael Andersen of Prokom Trefl Sopot (27) completed the top individual performances of the week.
Individual highs: Mancinelli, 10 steals
Stefano Mancinelli of Climamio Bologna came within one steal of the Euroleague record when he collected 10 during in his team's home loss against Dynamo Moscow. Jeff Trepagnier holds the all-time Euroleague steals record with 11, set in January of last year. Mancinelli is now sixth in steals per game with 2.56 per game, far behind the overall leader, DKV Joventut's teen sensation Ricky Rubio (4.25 spg.). Vujcic not only earned MVP honors, but also was the top scorer of the week with 33 points and dished as many 7 assists as anyone else, too, tying atop the weekly standings with Pepe Sanchez of Unicaja. Juan Carlos Navarro of Winterthur FC Barcelona remains the league's top scorer, though his averaged dropped to 18.2 points per game. Meanwhile, Nikos Zisis of Benetton Treviso is the overall assists leader at 5.1 per night. Vujcic ranks third in scoring (16.6 ppg.), fifth in assists (4.3 apg.) and fifth in rebounds (7.8 rpg.) -- the only player in the league ranked among the top 10 in those three categories. Not surprisingly, he also leads the index rating table (23.3 per game). Massey led all rebounders by grabbing 12 boards in his team's home win against Eldo Napoli and is fourth in the overall list at 8.8 per game. Despite sitting out this week with an arm injury, Mirsad Turkcan of Fenerbahce regained the top spot in total rebounds (9.56 rpg.) as James Thomas of Climamio (9.50 rpg.) grabbed just 3 against Dynamo this week. Daniel Santiago of Unicaja had 4 blocks, more than anyone else this week in his team's home win against Cibona. Marcus Haislip of Efes Pilsen leads the league with 2 blocks per game. Four players registered double-doubles this week: Massey (22 points, 12 rebounds), Mancinelli (20 points, 10 steals), Ryan Stack of Olympiacos (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Paulius Jankunas of Zalgiris (12 points, 10 rebounds).
