Week 1 MVP: Darjus Lavrinovic, Real Madrid
He's probably the first person in pro basketball history who needed to beat a twin brother to win an honor, but Real Madrid center Darjus Lavrinovic nonetheless became the Euroleague's regular season Week 1 MVP by racking up a performance index rating of 49, the sixth-best total all decade! Despite his huge numbers, however, Lavrinovic and Madrid suffered a tough 84-81 overtime loss on the road against BC Khimki. Lavrinovic so dominated on the offensive end that Khimki's defenders sent him to the foul line 17 where he made them pay by hitting on 14-of-17 tries. Lavrinovic went 6-for-10 from two-point range and 2-for-2 from deep to finish with 32 points on the night in addition to 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks and an amazing 11 fouls drawn. Most amazing of all, however, was that Darjus had to do all that just to beat his twin brother, center Ksistof Lavrinovic of Montepaschi Siena, whose index rating of 34 made him the week's MVP runner-up thanks to an almost immaculate offensive performance in his team's 40-85 demolition of Cibona on the road in Zagreb. Ksistof Lavrinovic was near-perfect shooting as he poured in 26 points on 3-of-5 two-pointers, 4-of-5 three-pointers and 8-of-10 free throws. When not scorching the net, Lavrinovic was busy grabbing 8 rebounds, making 2 steals, dishing out 2 assists and receiving 6 fouls for Siena. Next came small forward Pete Mickeal of Regal FC Barcelona with an index rating of 32 as he powered his new club to a 59-82 road win over Fenerbahce Ulker in Turkey. Mickeal scored 26 points going 9-of-10 on two-point shots and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line while also collecting 7 rebounds and 4 fouls drawn. In his Euroleague debut, forward Linas Kleiza of Olympiacos earned an index rating of 31 by racking up 23 points to go with 9 rebounds as the Reds won 94-72 over visiting Entente Orleanaise. Rounding out the Week 1 top performers, forward Qyntel Woods of Asseco Prokom Gdynia had a 29 index rating after scoring 23 points and collecting 14 rebounds in his team's home loss to EWE Baskets Oldenburg
Individual Highs: Terrell McIntyre, Montepaschi, 7 steals
The Week 1 MVP, Darjus Lavrinovic, also had this week's highest point output. The Real Madrid center's 32 points was league-best, and again, he was followed by his brother Ksistof of Montepaschi, who had 26 points, the same as Pete Mickeal of Barcelona. Travis Watson of Zalgiris and Asseco Prokom forward Qyntel Woods share top honors in the category of rebounding after pulling down 14 boards each. Point guard Terrell McIntyre dished out 11 assists for his Montepaschi Siena teammates, good for the top playmaker of the week. McIntyre also was the week's leader in steals with seven. Maccabi Electra's D'or Fischer was the top shot-blocker after swatting away five attempts, including two in the same play. Darjus Lavrinovic, Woods, Bojan Popovic of Lietuvos Rytas and Paulius Jankunas of Khimki Moscow region were the first four players of the season to collect double-doubles, too.
