Laboral's Bertans to miss rest of the season
For the second time in his young career, Laboral Kutxa Vitoria shooter Davis Bertans has suffered a season-ending knee injury, complicating his new team's quest to reach the Turkish Airlines Euroleague playoffs. Bertans, 22, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee early in his team's 99-85 road loss on Thursday to EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. It was the same knee that Bertans had injured in June of 2013 while playing for Partizan Belgrade, forcing him to miss much of last season. The exact period of revovery for this latest setback is not yet known. Bertans has made 22 Turkish Airlines Euroleague appearances this season with Laboral, 18 of them as a starter. He was averaging 11 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. Bertans ranked fourth in the Euroleague this season with 50 three-point shots made out of 141 attempts, which was the most in the competition, for a 35.5% accuracy rate. "Sometimes a sportsman's life is cruel, but this won't stop me," Bertans published on his Twitter account. "It's wonderful to know that I have so many great people around me." Bertans is well-known as one of world basketball’s most promising young shooters despite a childhood wood-cutting accident which cost him a finger on his right, shooting hand.
