Zvezda's Marjanovic sets rebounds mark to end milestone season
Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade center Boban Marjanovic rang out his fantastic Turkish Airlines Euroleague season by setting another new all-time Turkish Airlines Euroleague record in his team's Top 16 finale against Panathinaikos Athens. Marjanovic finished the game with 16 boards, which allowed him to set an all-time record for most rebounds in a Euroleague season with 256. Mirsad Turkcan held the previous record for more than a decade after pulling down 248 rebounds for Montepaschi Siena in the 2002-03 season. His 11 points and 16 rebounds in Zvezda's 69-68 victory allowed Marjanovic to record his 16th double-double this season, adding one more to the new record in that category that he set last week. Marjanovic had at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in nine of Zvezda's last 10 games, barely missing another double-double when he had 14 points and 9 rebounds against Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul. Tanoka Beard had the previous record, collecting 14 double-doubles with Zalgiris Kaunas in the 2004-05 season. Marjanovic's 25.67 performance index rating average is the highest in the competition in 10 years, as is his rebounding average of 10.67 per game. Arvydas Sabonis grabbed 10.72 rebounds per game when he earned MVP honors with Zalgiris in the 2004-05 season. Marjanovic has finished the 2014-15 Euroleague with averages of 16.6 points and 10.7 rebounds in 24 games with Zvezda.
