Regular Season Week 6 MVP: Dainius Salenga, Zalgiris
Dainius Salenga - ZalgirisThe fact that every minute and point counts in the Euroleague, even when you're on the losing side, was driven home by the efforts of Zalgiris Kaunas forward Dainius Salenga as he piled up the top performance index rating among all players to become Week 6 MVP. Despite his team being behind by 19 points midway through the fourth quarter at Asvel Basket on Thursday, Salenga led the charge to cut that difference and, in so doing, retained for Zalgiris retained what could be an important tie-break advantage at the end of the regular season. Salenga, 32 years old and in his eighth Euroleague season with Zalgiris, came within a point of his career-high as he scored 25 against Asvel on 5-of-5 two-point shooting and 6-of-7 free throw shooting. He added 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 6 fouls drawn to amass a 28 index rating. In the same game, Rawle Marshall of Asvel had 20 points on 5-of-8 three-point shooting plus 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 fouls drawn for a 25 index rating, tied for second-best in Week 6. With a game-changing appearance in the second half, Daniel Santiago of Efes Pilsen also had a 25 index that sparked a home win against Lietuvos Rytas. Santiago needed less than 14 minutes to get 17 points on 5-of-5 two-point shooting, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks and 6 fouls drawn. Vladimir Golubovic of Union Olimpija, Anthony Dobbins of Entente Orleanaise and Qyntel Woods of Asseco Prokom, each with a 23 index rating, completed the top individual performances of the week.

Individual highs: Theo Papaloukas of Olympiacos ties assists record

Salenga and Woods, who led Prokom to victory over Oldenburg at both ends of the floor, were the top scorers of Week 6 with 25 points. Matt Walsh of Union Olimpija remains the regular season scoring leader at 22 points per game. Walsh’s teammate Golubovic pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds to lead the weekly standings in that category. Travis Watson of Zalgiris remains the Euroleague’s leading rebounder (9.5 rpg.) through six games. Former Euroleague MVP Theo Papaloukas of Olympiacos dished 14 assists in the Reds’ 84-88 come-from-behind victory over Orleans, tying a Euroleague single-game record that had lasted more than five years. Tyus Edney previously achieved that feat with Benetton Treviso against Olympiacos in February 2004. Papaloukas is the regular season assists leader, too, with 7.2 per game. Mindaugas Lukauskis of Asvel collected 6 steals against Zalgiris, more than anyone else in Week 6. He now leads the regular season standings at 2.83 per night. Omer Asik of Fenerbahce Ulker and Milan Majstorovic of EWE Baskets Oldenburg each blocked 3 shots this week. Asik is tied for second with two others behind league leader D'Or Fischer of Maccabi Electra (1.83 bpg.). Golubovic (14 points, 13 rebounds) and Dusan Kecman of Partizan (16 points, 10 rebounds) were the only players to register double-doubles in Week 6.
