Zalgiris inks Aleksandar Capin long-term
Aleksandar CapinEight years after he debuted in the Euroleague as a teenager, point guard Aleksandar Capin is returning with a long-term contract to join Zalgiris Kaunas, the club announced Tuesday. Capin (186, 27) and Zalgiris signed contract through the end of the 2011-12 season, the club said. Capin, who played earlier this season with Lokomotiv Kuban of Russia, will meet his new team in Istanbul on Wednesday. Zalgiris needs to defeat host Fenerbahce Ulker on Thursday in order to have a chance of reaching the Top 16. Although Capin has not played in the Euroleague since the 2001-02 season, when he averaged 1.9 points over 12 games for Krka Novo Mesto of Slovenia, his home country, he has played almost every season since in the ULEB Cup, which is now the Eurocup. Starting with Novo Mesto, with whom he was ULEB Cup runner-up in 2003, Capin played for a total eight teams in six countries this decade, including four in the continent's second competition. Always known for his speed, Capin averaged 14.9 points per game for Telekom Bonn of Germany in 2003-04 and 13.3 per game two seasons ago with Pallacanestro Varese in Italy.
