Cibona adds veteran guard Samo Udrih
Samo Udrih joins CibonaCibona Zagreb celebrated its passage to the Top 16 on Thursday by adding experience to the roster in the person of swingman Sam Udrih, who has played one previous season in the Euroleague. Udrih (195, 30) arrives from half a season at his original club, KK Polzela in Slovenia, after having spent the previous four in the Spanish League with Girona, Granada and Estudiantes, where he averaged 9 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist last season. Over the summer, he helped the Slovenian national team place fourth at EuroBasket 2009, its best finish ever, by putting up similar numbers in 18 minutes per game. Udrih can help fill the void left in Cibona by a long-term Achilles tendon injury to captain Marin Rozic. Before landing in Spain, Udrih had spent most of his career in his native Slovenia, with Polzela, Lasko, Geoplin Slovan and Union Olimpija, although he played only three Euroleague games with the latter in 2002-03. From Olimpija, he made a one-season stop in France's second division, with Maurienne, followed by a half-season with Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel.
