Marcus Haislip signs on to bolster champs
Marcus HaislipDefining champion Panathinaikos added a proven Euroleague force to its lineup with the signing of power forward Marcus Haislip over the weekend. Haislip (207, 29) was among the top big men in the Euroleague over the past four seasons, during which he suited up for Ulker and Efes Pilsen in Turkey and Unicaja in Spain. He arrives from San Antonio of the NBA, where he recorded a total of 25 points and 10 rebounds in 10 games off the bench this season. Haislip will reinforce a battered Panathinaikos frontline, which in the last week has seen two big men go down. Kostas Tsartsaris will miss the entire Top 16 with a broken hand and Mike Batiste is sidelined with a torn calf muscle.

The athletic Haislip averaged 11.2 points and 4.9 rebounds for Unicaja last season. His best individual campaign came in 2006-07, when Haislip was worth 14.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and a league-best 1.8 blocks per game for Efes Pilsen. Haislip is tied for 10th place on the Euroleague’s career shot-blocking list with 80.
