Regal Barcelona outlasted Maroussi BC 79-69 to remain undefeated this season. It was also Barca’s eighth straight win by a double-digit margin. Euroleague MVP Juan Carlos Navarro paced the winners with 17 points and 8 assists. He is now averaging 3.8 assists per game, which represents a career high. Boni NDong added 15 points and 12 rebounds for his first double double in a Barcelona uniform. Jamon Lucas led Maroussi with a season-high 24 points.
Partizan shocked Panathinaikos 59-64 to shake up Group E, marking the fourth season in a row in which the Serbian champs have beaten the Greens. It also marked Partizan’s first win in Athens in three years. Jan Vesely led the winners with 13 points, while Lawrence Roberts recorded his first double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Slavko Vranes dominated the paint with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks, giving him 13 rejections in his last three games. The 59 points scored by Panathinaikos was the club’s worst offensive output sine a 63-56 loss to Partizan in Belgrade in the Top 16 last season. And it was Panathinaikos’s worst offensive output at home since a 58-69 loss to CSKA in November 2003.
Real Madrid defeated Efes Pilsen 77-70 in the Spanish capital thanks to a well-balanced effort of nine players with at least 6 points. Louis Bullock led the winners with 12 points and Rimantas Kaukenas and Darjus Lavrinovic each added 11 for Madrid, which improved to 6-0 at home this season. Efes led 64-65 midway through the fourth quarter before Marko Jaric scored 7 points in a 10-2 run that helped Madrid pull away for the win.
Montepaschi Siena overcame Maccabi Electra 76-72 for its first ever win over the Israeli champs. Maccabi had won all nine previous meetings between the clubs. Montepaschi lead most of the game, but Maccabi battled back to within 2 in the final minute only to see the hosts make their free throws to seal the win. Among the players to sink clutch free throws was Henry Domercant, who ran his streak of consecutive free throws without a miss to 51. The Euroleague record for most successive free throws without a miss is 58, set by Igor Rakocevic last season with Tau Ceramica. Domercant finished with 16 points – all in the last 13 minutes. David Hawkins led the winners with 17 points.
CSKA downed difficult Unicaja 86-78 in Group G in the first game of the Top 16, stretching its winning streak to eight straight games. CSKA's stars stepped up: Ramunas Siskauskas with 23 points, Trajan Langdon with 19 and Viktor Khryapa with 12, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. For Khryapa, it was his third double-double in as many games. Juan Dixon led Unicaja with 17 points in his Euroleague debut.
Asseco Prokom walloped Zalgiris 89-65 on the strength of 20 points and 8 assists from David Logan. The win marked the first time Prokom ever started the Top 16 with a win. The Polish champs led by 9 at the half and put the game away with a 15-0 third quarter run. Przemyslaw Zamojski made his first Euroleague appearance of the season for Prokom, shot 3 for 3 from downtown and scored a career-high 11 points off the bench. Mario Delas scored 14 points in 20 minutes in his Euroleague debut for Zalgiris.
Olympiacos downed Caja Laboral 85-89 to become the second road winner of the week. Josh Childress led the Reds with 21 points, and Ioannis Bourousis recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds for his first double double of the season. Linas Kleiza added 18 for his 11th straight game in double figures in points. Marcelinho Huertas scored a career-high 23 points in defeat.
BC Khimki bested Cibona 83-70 as Robertas Javtokas and Kelly McCarty highlighted a 16-3 fourth-quarter surge. Both players finished with 17 points to pace Khimki. Raul Lopez made 7 of 7 free throws, raising his career free-throw percentage to 90.1%, which makes him one of five players in Euroleague history above 90%. Marko Tomas led Cibona with 17 points.
