CSKA Moscow adds firepower with Higgins
CSKA Moscow improved its backcourt for the upcoming Turkish Airlines Euroleague season by inking guard Cory Higgins to a one-year deal on Wednesday. CSKA has an option to extend it until the end of the 2016-17 season. Higgins (1.95 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Royal Hali Gaziantep, where he averaged 16 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 29 Turkish League games last season. He started his professional career with Erie Bay of the D-League and has also played for Denver and Charlotte of the NBA, as well as for Triumph Lyubertsy of Russia. Higgins was the second-best scorer in the 2013-14 VTB League, averaging 20.3 points in 22 games, and helped Triumph reach the EuroChallenge final that season. "We were considering Cory last year, when we played for Triumph, and followed him with Gaziantep this season. He played a big role and showed that he improved as a player," CSKA head coach Dimitris Itoudis said. "Higgins is a good athlete who can help our team at both ends. He can create shots for himseld but is also able to create situations for his teammates. Cory is very motivated to move to the next level and we are happy that he really wants to prove he belongs to the top."
