CSKA Moscow lands big man Freeland

CSKA Moscow bolstered its frontcourt by inking experienced big man Joel Freeland to a two-year contract on Monday. Freeland (2.08 meters, 28 years old) arrives from Portland of the NBA, where he played the last three years. He averaged 3.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 50 NBA games last season. Before that, Freeland played three Turkish Airlines Euroleague seasons with Unicaja Malaga. He averaged 12.8 points and 6.7 rebounds in 14 Euroleague games in the 2011-12 season, his last with Unicaja. Freeland accumulated 526 points (12.2 ppg.) and 262 rebounds (6.1 rpg.) in 43 Euroleague career games with Unicaja. Freeland started his career with Gran Canaria and played there until he signed with Unicaja in 2009. He has also been a member of the British national team, averaging 14.6 points and 6.6 rebounds in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.

"I am delighted and happy to return to Europe, and with such an incredible team like CSKA Moscow," Freeland said. "To be part of this great organization is a privilege that I will definitely take on responsibly. I will work hard and help my team achieve their goals. I know what kind of effort CSKA made to get me, and it only adds to the emotion, showing that the club really wanted to have me in the lineup. I am sure that we will have a good season."
