Top 16 Week 6 in review
Juan Carlos Navarro - Regal FC BarcelonaRegal FC Barcelona was crowned Group E champ by beating Partizan 82-64. The win improved Barca's record to 5-1 and avenged its only loss of the Euroleague season so far, by one point to Partizan in Belgrade earlier in the Top 16. Partizan managed to challenge until halftime, but a 12-0 third-quarter run allowed Barcelona to jump ahead for good. Juan Carlos Navarro led the winners with 18 points. The win was Barcelona’s 10th straight at Palau Blaugrana, giving it the second-longest active home-court winning streak in the league.

Outgoing champion Panathinaikos overcame a rash of injuries to top Maroussi 82-79, ending the latter’s hopes of reaching the playoffs. Mike Batiste led the winners with 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting – including the go-ahead basket in the final minute – plus 8 rebounds, while Giorgi Shermadini and Sarunas Jasikevicius each came off the bench for 11 points. Saras also dished a season-high 5 assists.

Doron Perkins - Maccabi ElectraMaccabi Electra used a big fourth quarter comeback to stun Real Madrid 64-66 on a pair of Alan Anderson free throws with 4.3 seconds remaining and claim first place in Group F at the end of the Top 16. Madrid led by as many as 19 in the first half as it limited the Israeli champs to just 21 points in the first 20 minutes. The hosts went into the fourth quarter up 9, but Maccabi chipped away and took its first lead of the night on a Chuck Eidson triple with 67 seconds left. Travis Hansen tied the game with 13.3 to play, but Anderson restored the Maccabi edge from the line and Madrid was unable to get off a shot in the remaining time. The Maccabi reserves outscored the starters 34-32 in the win.

Montepaschi Siena finished its Euroleague season on a high note by edging Efes Pilsen 93-87. Romain Sato and David Hawkins paced the winners with 22 points apiece. For Hawkins it was the most points he has scored in a Euroleague game for Montepaschi. The Italian champs finished the game with 12 steals and once again led the league in that category with 9.7 steals per game.

Mensah-Bonsu Pops - CSKA MoscowCSKA Moscow finished the Top 16 in style by downing Zalgiris 84-71 in Group G. Pops Mensah-Bonsu paced the winners with 19 points and 8 rebounds and Trajan Langdon added 17. It was a special evening for Langdon as he scored his 2,000th career Euroleague point and recorded his 200th steal. Viktor Khryapa shined on the defensive end with 3 blocks to take sole possession of 10th place on the career shot-blocking charts.

Unicaja finished the Top 16 this season on a positive note thanks to a 63-82 road win at Asseco Prokom. Unicaja stepped up with a 8-20 fourth-quarter run that broke the game open. Joel Freeland led the winners with his 17 points, Berni Rodriguez added 15 and Omar Cook scored 11 plus 8 assists, making him the Top 16 assists leader with 5.8 per game. Ratko Varda scored a Euroleague-best 16 points in defeat.

Caja Laboral celebratesCaja Laboral made a miracle leap into the playoffs by rallying from 14 points behind with three minutes left to tie and then defeat Cibona Zagreb 102-90 in overtime and thereby qualify for the playoffs from Group H. Caja Laboral finished tied for second place with Khimki Moscow Region, with both teams having beat the other by 11 points. The third tie-breaker, overall difference in the group, didn't seem in play as Khimki was ending the unbeaten run of group winner Olympiacos with game-long double-digit leads while Caja Laboral fell behind 58-72 to Cibona late in the fourth quarter. A 17-2 run over the next two minutes made it a new game, and then Marcelinho Huertas missed the first of a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to force overtime. Once in the five-minute extra period. Caja Laboral was unstoppable, pouring in 25 points - the third most in a single OT in Euroleague history - to win by 12 despite tipping in Cibona's last shot accidentally. Mirza Teletovic led the Caja Laboral comeback and finished with 25 points.

BC Khimki Moscow Region dominated from start to finish for an impressive 96-83 win over Olympiacos, but it was not enough to advance to the Quarterfinal Playoffs. Khimki started the game on a 23-4 tear and Olympiacos never got closer than 8 at any point. Keith Langford led the Khimki attack with 24 points, 7 assists and 3 steals, Kelly McCarty scored 21 and Raul Lopez recorded 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Linas Kleiza and Milos Teodosic netted 17 apiece to lead the Reds, whose 10-game winning streak came to an end.
