Quarterfinal Analyst: Ronnie Seibutis - Bilbao Basket
Ronnie Seibutis in so many ways sums up the Bizkaia Bilbao Basket team. Though just 24 years old, he has experience and is a gifted, all-around player who can take charge if needed or sit back and play a smaller roleĀ for the betterment of the team. After reaching the semifinals last season, Seibutis is taking it all in stride this year as the club targets Eurocup glory. "So far I have had good games and bad games, ups and downs, but that is normal," he said. "One thing is for certain - defense will be the most important thing to win the series. We have to play good defense and everything will start by doing that, no question about it."
It has been a good Eurocup season for Bilbao so far. In what shape does your team arrive to the Quarterfinals?
"I think we arrive in a good condition, because we faced tough teams in the Last 16. Of course, we know that it will be even tougher from now on, starting with Nymburk in the Quarterfinals. Anything can happen in a two-way series and it will not be easy, but I am sure we will be ready for the Quarterfinals and will have good chances to advance. The situation with our team has been good in the last two months. We are getting better at every practice and every game. We will see what happens in the end."
What is the most important thing to consider about Nymburk, being that you played against them last season?
"I didn't have the chance to watch many games of them this year, but of course, the fact that they made it to the Quarterfinals shows that Nymburk is a very competitive team. Like I said before, it will not be easy to beat them. They have some very experienced players and are used to playing at a very high level. Again, these are the Eurocup Quarterfinals. You cannot expect to face easy teams."
Bilbao has had different runs in the Spanish League and the Eurocup. How has the season been for you and your team up to this point?
"Well, the season is not over yet and I would like to think about how it was once it's over. We have two months left, more or less, and the results we get from now on will tell us if the season was successful or not. Personally, so far I have had good games and bad games, ups and downs, but that is normal. Of course, I am trying to do my best in every situation. I always stay positive and critical of myself. I always want to play more and better, help the team as much as I can. In the end, I will think more about it once the season is over. It all depends on the results we get."
From your point of view, who are Nymburk's most dangerous players and why?
"I would say that their key player is Arthur Lee, the point guard. I also like Petr Benda, but above all, Nymburk plays team basketball. We cannot focus on just one or two players because Nymburk really plays as a team. We have to study them well and focus on everybody."
Last but definitely not least, what does your team have to do to overcome Nymburk and reach the Eurocup Finals?
"We will see. We still have some time before the start of the series and we have not prepared the gameplan yet. Our coach will decide what to do. One thing is for certain - defense will be the most important thing to win the series. We have to play good defense and everything will start by doing that, no question about it."
