TV agreements mean record Euroleague exposure
With the 2009-10 Quarterfinal Playoffs about to start, Euroleague Basketball is proud to announce three new broadcasting agreements that will make Euroleague games available to a greater audience than ever before. The agreements with ESPN Star, J Sports and Setanta Africa mean that Euroleague games are now offered regularly by 53 TV partners worldwide whose broadcasts now reach a record 185 countries and territories.
"These three agreements with such reputable broadcasters show once again that Euroleague Basketball is attracting new believers all the time," Andrea Bassani, Euroleague Basketball Director of Television, said. "We look forward to giving new fans in so many diverse countries the chance to see basketball drama at its best as they follow the great teams and super talents in our competition."
From the start of the quarterfinals through the end of the Final Four, ESPN Star will offer Euroleague coverage in 28 Asian countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Guam, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Micronesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Caledonia, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Also starting now and lasting through the Final Four, ESPN affiliate J Sports will broadcast games on a non-exclusive basis in Japan, a first for the Euroleague.
A long-term agreement with broadcaster Setanta Africa will last through the 2011-12 season, bringing this season's playoffs and Final Four and at least 25 games of Euroleague action during each of the next two full seasons on a non-exclusive basis to the following African countries via DTH, DTT, cable, MMDS and FTA broadcast affiliates: Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo Democratic Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe. Starting May 1, the same will be true of South Africa, too.
