Zalgiris Kaunas announced the signing of guard DeJuan Collins over the weekend. Collins (30, 1.88m), who started the season with Brose Baskets Bamberg in Germany, adds depth to an injury-depleted backcourt. The club, which looked into signing a number of players, said it chose Collins because he played in Europe and his adjustment would be easier. Coach Rimantas Grigas commented: “This player is very athletic and quick. He can penetrate and he could be our go-to guy. I think he will easily fit in our system.”
Collins has spent the majority of his European career in Germany, winning a league title with Alba Berlin in 2003. He also played two seasons in the Euroleague with Berlin. Two years ago Collins moved to Greece with Aris Thessaloniki and last year he played in Italy with Varese. The point guard played eight games for Brose Basket in the ULEB Cup this season, leading the team in scoring, (14.3 ppg.), assists (4.3 apg.) and steals (1.7 spg.).
