Italian League champion Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari completed its frontline by signing power forward Joe Alexander, who made his Turkish Airlines Euroleague debut last season with Maccabi Tel Aviv. Alexander (2.03 meters, 28 years old) averaged 4.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.4 blocks over nearly 12 minutes in 15 games off the bench last season. He also produced 8.6 points, 3.5 boards and 1 block over 18 minutes in 15 Israeli League contests. Before joining Maccabi in December, Alexander starred for Santa Cruz of the NBA D-League, where he was among the league’s top performers with 21.7 points on 55.3% shooting plus 8 rebounds per game.
Alexander spent much of his youth in China, where his father was an executive for an American company. He returned to the United States in high school and played college basketball at West Virginia University. He was a lottery pick for Milwaukee in the 2008 NBA Draft and totaled 67 games over two seasons for Milwaukee and Chicago. Alexander later played for Fort Wayne and Texas in the D-League, though a series of injuries caused him to spend much of the time between 2010 and 2014 on the sidelines. He had signed Krasnye Krylya of Russia in the summer of 2011, but was released early in the season due to a knee injury and did not play after that for two years.
