Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade signed fan-favorite forward Marko Simonovic to a short-term deal on Wednesday to help shore up a lineup facing injuries. Simonovic (2.03 meters, 29 years old) previously spent two seasons with Zvezda between 2012 and 2014. In the second of those seasons, he was the team captain, made his Turkish Airlines Euroleague debut and helped Zvezda reach the Eurocup semifinals. Last season he played for Pau Orthez in France, where Simonovic averaged 13.4 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. A dangerous three-point shooter, Simonovic started his professional career with Lavovi 063 and then played for Ergonom in Serbia, before a short stint with Ostend in Belgium. He later suited up for Hemofarm Stada Vrsac in Serbia and Buducnost VOLI Podgorica in Montenegro, and spent a season with ALBA Berlin in Germany. Simonovic has been a regular with the Serbian national team and won a silver medal at the Basketball World Cup in 2014.
