Less than a week into the season, Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade sustained a brutal blow to its Turkish Airlines Euroleague aspirations when team captain Luka Mitrovic suffered an injured knee on Sunday that is expected to keep him sidelined for months, the club said in a statement. The injured occurred during the team's home loss Sunday to Union Olimpija, the first on Zvezda's homecourt in that competition after 40 consecutive victories. Mitrovic injured his left knee and was taken off the court on a stretcher. Mitrovic (2.04 mters, 22 years old) has been Zvezda's captain for a couple seasons, making him one of the youngest players to fill that role in the Euroleague. Mitrovic has started 26 of his 32 Euroleague games over two full seasons plus last week's opener in a Crvena Zvezda uniform. He had averaged 8.6 points and 5.2 rebounds last season. His loss is compounded by the fact that another power forward, Marko Tejic, is also injured and expected to miss some weeks on the court, too.
