CSKA star Smodis makes season debut
Matjaz Smodis - CSKA MoscowAfter sitting out seven months with back pain, CSKA Moscow star Matjaz Smodis is back. The veteran forward shock off the rust in a 17-minute appearance on Sunday in the Russian League and is expected to be fully fit to help his team challenge for the Euroleague title at the Final Four in Paris. He scored 6 points, grabbed 3 rebounds and dished 2 assists in a narrow loss Sunday at Khimki Moscow Region. Smodis, a three-time Euroleague winner, is in his fifth season at CSKA. He enters the Final Four as the fifth best scorer in Final Four history with 148 total points. Smodis also ranks among the Euroleague career top 20 in points scored, (14th; 1,750) and rebounds (17th; 657). Injuries have plagued Smodis at times during his career, but he has always retuned strong. During the 2007-08 season, Smodis missed 15 Euroleague games due to injuries, but returned for the end of the Top 16 and shined in the Final Four as CSKA lifted the title.
