UK agreements add up to Final Four broadcasting record
Euroleague Basketball is pleased to announce that two of the United Kingdom's signature sports broadcasters, Sky TV and ESPN, will bring coverage of the 2010 Final Four to their widespread audiences in England, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Channel Islands, as well as to their international viewers. The new agreements with Sky TV and ESPN ensure that the 2010 Final Four will enjoy record coverage that reaches a total of 194 countries through 57 different broadcasters.
ESPN's service will include live broadcast of the first semifinal on Friday, May 7, between Regal FC Barcelona and CSKA Moscow, as well as live coverage of the title game on Sunday, May 9. On Sky TV, viewers will be treated to follow-up shows featuring the best of the weekend's action and stories in separate programs devoted to the semifinals and the title game.
"We are delighted that basketball fans in the United Kingdom will have a great choice of broadcasters with which to follow the Final Four, so I would like to thank both ESPN and SKY TV for their great interest," said Andrea Bassani, the Director of TV for Euroleague Basketball. "Besides the fact that these agreements expand our coverage to a record number of countries, 194, we think that fans in the UK will love our brand of basketball now and in the future."
The announcement coincides with the news that the Final Four will once again be seen on China's principal sports channel, CCTV 5, which will delay its broadcasts so that viewers can watch during the day, while for the first time, the event will reach basketball fans in Iceland through Sport TV.
