Asvel Basket has started to get ready for the upcoming 2010-11 season by inking playmaker Leo Westermann and forward Kim Tillie to respective two-year deals, the club announced this week. Asvel keeps an option to extend Westermann's contract until the end of the 2013-14 season. Westermann (198, 17) arrives from Centre Federal du Basket-Ball in the French third division, where he averaged 13.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3 assists in 20 games. He has been a member of the French under-16 and under-18 national teams. Westermann helped France to get a bronze medal at the 2007 European under-16 Championships and reach the 2009 European under-18 Championships final. Meanwhile, Tillie (211, 21) just finished his four-year college career at the University of Utah (NCAA). He averaged 7 points and 5.5 rebounds in 28 NCAA games with the Utes last season. Tillie helped France to win the 2006 European under-18 Championships and got a bronze medal at the 2007 World under-19 Championships, too. "We are very pleased that Leo has chosen Asvel once he left the Federal Center. With Paul Lacombe and Bangaly Fofana back in the team and the return of Edwin Jackson, we have another player with great potential, which should allow team to grow in the years to come. Being a tall playmaker, he has a strong physical impact and a great game knowledge for someone his age," Asvel head coach Vincent Collet said. "Kim is an athlete, very tall and mobile. He is a power forward full of energy, with deep range. We believe in his potential."
