Le Mans inks Pellin, Dewar, Covile
Le Mans Sarthe Basket moved quickly to start building its team for the 2010-11 season by signing three players from the French League – all of them with past Euroleague experience. Point guard Marc-Antoine Pellin arrives from Chorale Roanne, swingman Ben Dewar comes from Asvel Basket and big man Ryvon Covile from Entente Orleanaise. Pellin (170, 22) is a team-first guard who ranked second in assists in the 2007-08 Euroleague with 4.5 per game. He dished 13 in one game that year, which ties him for third on the list of most assists in a single Euroleague game. Pellin is coming off meniscus surgery and his two-year contract is contingent on his passing a physical in July. Among his career highlights are winning the 2007 French League and the 2007 Semain des As.
Dewar (196, 28) averaged 4.2 points in nine Euroleague games mostly in a reserve role for Asvel Basket last season. Those numbers climbed to 9.3 points on 43.6% three-point shooting in the French League. Dewar played two seasons in total with Asvel Basket, winning the French League in 2009. Before that Dewar player three seasons for Entente Orleans, starting in the French second division and helping the club to the top level in France. Dewar began his professional career with Sjaelland in Denmark after playing college basketball at Lake Superior State, where he averaged 23.9 points in his senior year.
Covile (204, 26) also played in the Euroleague last season, posting 8.5 points on 58.3% shooting and 4.2 rebounds in just 21 minutes per game. In the French League Covile averaged 9.8 points on 56.1% shooting and 4.7 rebounds in 24 minutes per game. Le Mans will be his fourth professional club after stints with Alerta Cantabria Lobos in Spain and Hapoel Gilboa/Afula in Israel before joining Orleans in 2009. Covile played college basketball at the University of Detroit Mercy, where he was twice named to the Horizon League All-Defensive Team during his four years. In the same announcement, Le Mans said that Zack Wright, Marc Salyers and Guillaume Yango were all released.
