Asvel Basket added size and experience to its frontline ahead of its attempt to return to the Euroleague via the qualifying rounds by signing Andrija Zizic for the coming season. Zizic (206, 30) is a seasoned Euroleague player who has featured for Cibona, Barcelona, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos in the past. Last season Zizic suited up for Cedevita in his native Croatia, where he led the Adriatic League in scoring with 17.1 points per game and was among the top 10 rebounders with 5.8 per game. In the FIBA Eurochallenge, Zizic posted 13.2 points and 7.8 boards over five games. Zizic began his career with Omis Mosor and later played for Split, both in Croatia, Barcelona and Zaragoza in Spain, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos in Greece and Galatasaray in Turkey. Among his career highlights are winning two Croatian League championships and on Greek League title.
"It is satisfying to recruit a player of great experience, who after a promising start with Cibona and Split had the opportunity to play for big clubs in Europe with especially a remarkable year with Olympiacos in 2006-2007," Asvel coach Vincent Collet said. "He is a pivot schooled in the classic Yugoslavian style of play, with low-post moves and passing ability. Although he lacks some explosiveness, he is a player who runs very well for his size. I believe Zizic will also be able to assume leadership responsibilities in our team and set an example for our two young players, Bangaly Fofana and Kim Tillie."
